AWANA Pledge
I pledge allegiance to the Awana flag, which stands for the Awana Clubs, whose goal is to reach boys and girls with the gospel of Christ, and train them to serve Him. |
|
An Awana Leader is a committed believer who ministers in an Awana club in our local church.
Saved (Eph. 2:8-9) them in the Christian faith (Matt. 28:19-20)
All Awana leaders should faithfully attend Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and midweek services. Through their personal example, Awana leaders should set a high standard of church involvement for their clubbers. |

GENERAL AWANA INFO
The name AWANA was taken from the Bible scripture in 2 Timothy 2:15 where Paul was encouraging Timothy to study the Scriptures as an "approved workman" - Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed.
Just as Paul taught Timothy to study the Scriptures and serve the Lord many years ago, in the 1940's, Pastor Lance "Doc" Latham of the North Side Gospel Center in Chicago, IL wanted to find a way to reach boys and girls and teens who didn't go to church on Sunday. One of the young people at the Center, Art Rorheim, helped Doc and his wife develop the Awana program. As the Awana uniforms, handbooks, unique four-way Game Circle, and award system were developed, God blessed this new youth program. The Awana Youth Association was officially organized in 1950. Today, hundreds of thousands of boys and girls and teens worldwide are learning God's Word in Awana Clubs each week. This year marks the 53th anniversary of Awana Clubs.
Each club meeting is comprised of three segments: Game Time, Handbook Time, and Council Time. Game Time features unique games on the Awana Game Circle. The Game director leads Game Time among four teams: red, blue, green, and yellow.
Handbook Time features achievements in Awana entrance booklets, handbooks, handbook reviews, and memory packets.
Council Time segment includes club announcements, award presentations, song time, testimonies, a Bible message, invitation, and closing.
What makes Awana unique? With many youth programs available to churches, one might ask this question. The heart of Awana is the gospel message. Everyone is a sinner (Rom. 3;23) and in God's eyes deserves eternal punishment in hell (Rom. 6:23, Rev. 20:15). But Jesus Christ, God's Son, paid the penalty for our sin when He was crucified on the cross and rose from the dead (Rom. 5:8, 1 Cor. 15:3-4). If we trust Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, we receive God's gift of eternal life in heaven. Salvation is a free gift; we cannot buy it or earn it by doing good works (Eph. 2:8-9). Eternal security is an important dimension of the gospel message. After we accept jesus Christ as our personal Savior, we can never lose our salvation (I John 10:27-29). Awana strongly emphasizes memorizing and understanding scripture. Psalm 119: 11 says, "Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee." |
